Grants Pass Captures The 2019 16B USA of Oregon Championship

Beaverton — On a day where everything went their way, Grants Pass finished off a great performance at the 16B USA of Oregon Championship with a cherry on top with some extra whipping cream.

Grants Pass kicked off the tournament with 12-0 and 10-0 shutouts, but it wasn’t all roses from there. Grants Pass had to eek out a 5-4 win over Black Tornado Fastpitch before beating the Ambush 3-1 to advance to the title game on Sunday.

In the title game, Grants Pass jumped all over the Ambush, building a 6-0 lead after two innings. In the third, Grants Pass drew some walks, hit a few shots to the outfield, and eventually sent one over the fence to blow open a 12-0 lead after three innings. In the top of the fourth, Grants Pass allowed a leadoff double, but recorded three straight outs to finish the game of by mercy rule 12-0, winning the 16B USA of Oregon Championship over the Ambush.

Grants Pass Head Coach Donnie Bellum discussed the tournament sweep for his squad, “We are a young, inexperienced group and our deal is trying to get our girls ready to play high school softball together. From the first game to the last game this weekend, I felt we came together a little bit and the girls are understanding the game a little faster than they did when they were in 12u or 14u softball so yeah it was a good tournament win for us.”
