Sherwood Takes A Wild JBO Senior Federal Championship Game Over West Albany

Lebanon — When its hot and steaming outside, combined with a turf field and some big bats, you know you’re in for a treat. Sherwood faced West Albany for the 2019 JBO Senior Federal State Championship at Lebanon High School, as the Bulldogs defeated Sprague 3-0 on Sunday morning to advance to the championship series Sunday afternoon.

After a scoreless inning and a half, Sherwood drew first blood in the form of a two out RBI triple, putting the Bowmen on the board 1-0 after two innings. West Albany hit back in the top of the third, as the Bulldogs pulled off a suicide squeeze to knot it up 1-1. Sherwood would respond with a bigger bottom of the third, hitting an RBI single and scoring two more runs via error to take a 4-1 advantage after three innings.

West Albany decided to one up that, first with a 2 RBI single that cut it to 4-3 and then a 2 RBI double that gave them a 5-4 lead. Sherwood answered directly, tying up the game on an RBI single. Then with a man on with no one out, the Bowmen smacked a two run bomb to make it a 7-5 game, making it 8-5 with an RBI single to lead after four innings.

The Bulldogs would cut the lead to 8-7 with a bases loaded hit by pitch and a sacrifice fly, but the Bowmen simply had too many runs up their sleeves. Sherwood would go on to tack on seven more runs, and the Bowmen won the 2019 JBO Senior Federal State Championship over West Albany 15-10.

Sherwood Head Coach Taylor Hill talked about the emotional title for the Bowmen, “Its great man, these kids worked hard all year long. Multi-sport athletes playing two sports and they’ve been consistent, strong, and fast. This game ended up being about what we expected, a high scoring shootout and its great!”
