Alli Stilp finished with 17 points, while Sicily Hampton had 16 for the Tigers, who remain undefeated with the victory.
After winning their own tournament, Newberg’s Alli Stilp and Sicily Hampton talked about the defensive strategy, offensive execution, and prepping for league play.
Alli Stilp on the defensive game plan, “We have a really good zone defense, so our Coach likes to apply that defense on other teams because it puts pressure on their offense, and I think we do great at rotating around, stealing the ball, and our defensive rebounds are really good.”
Sicily Hampton on the offensive execution, “I think because our team unity is really coming together, and we’re really good friends on and off the court, and that really helps with playing together on the court.”
Alli Stilp on prepping for Canby, “Games in our league are going to be really close, so its about being the mature basketball team and getting those victories by a couple of points. I think last year we had a rougher time doing that because we were a younger basketball team, and now we’re more mature and have been putting our experiences where we can come back and win games.”
Newberg (5-0) faces Canby in a Wednesday showdown, with full coverage being given by Oregon’s Elite! Sunset (1-3) travels to McMinnville on Tuesday.
