In the final installment of a three-part series previewing the wrestling state championships, we will look at the fields in the 155, 170, 190, and 235 pound classes! For the previous previews, here are links to Part 1 and Part 2!
155 Pound Class
The Field: Vida Boskovic (Roosevelt), Joanna Rollot (Southridge), Adalynn Williams (Dayton), Zoey Smalley (Douglas), Gabi Gilbert (Thurston), Sage Teixeira (Eagle Point), Rowena Yandell (Estacada), Taimata Callaway (La Pine), Kaitlin Brock (La Grande), Destiny Rodriguez (West Linn), Madi Randels (Tualatin), Reese Lawson (West Salem)
Analysis: America’s #1 wrestler is in this division: Destiny Rodriguez. She is a complete monster who swallows whole her competition, so barring something groundbreaking during the match, it is Rodriguez winning the division. Her opponent stands to be Zoey Smalley, who boasts an undefeated record this season in competition and hasn’t had any issues yet on the mat, or Madi Randels with her undefeated record before facing Rodriguez in regionals and battling for two minutes with her.
Favorite: Destiny Rodriguez – 99% Chance
170 Pound Class
The Field: Jennifer Delatorre (Tillamook), Anna McDougal (Central Linn), Jasmine Lopez (Woodburn), Cambria Funk (St. Helens), Onastacia Boling (Roosevelt), Lexli Zuriaga (Canby), Kami Hart (Sweet Home), Abigale Boeggeman (Hidden Valley), Alixia Hernandez (Eagle Point), Sheylin Karolski (Baker/Powder Valley), Sarah Witts (Bend), Jaydika Anderson (Grant Union)
Analysis: Another heavy favorite in this division, Kami Hart is the clear-cut favorite to be the 170 champion. She will face likely either the rising senior Jennifer Delatorre or an Anna McDougal in the finals, with the other being the favorite to take third place against St. Helens Cambria Funk.
Favorite: Kami Hart – 85% Chance
190 Pound Class
The Field: Gracie Baker (Crane), Delaney Coombs (Grant Union), Georgia Buehler (Corvallis), Tali Kozma (Sherwood), Aubrey Murphy (West Albany), Olivia McCurdy (Hidden Valley), Lalaine Chan (North Medford), Lillyan Jaramillo (Rogue River), Ella Taplin (Forest Grove), Anna Rintoul (Scappoose), McKenzie Mills (David Douglas)
Analysis: Another heavy favorite dominates this class, with Ella Taplin sitting at the summit of the 190 class. The pairing would be against Georgia Buehler, Olivia McCurdy, or Anna Rintoul, who really do round out the top four of this class. Buehler and Rintoul are likely the favorites to face Taplin, but McCurdy is capable of making it as well.
Favorite: Ella Taplin – 85% Chance
235 Pound Class
The Field: Faith Wooley (Liberty), Rose Williams (Centennial), Madison Giesbers (Century), Breanna Meek (North Valley), Katelyn Klingler (Crater), Mallory Lusco (Grant Union), Aryanna Albright (Elgin), Stephanie Romero (Irrigon), Yared Calderon (McNary), Alexa Cleveland (Newport), Karen Guzman (Newport)
Analysis: To finish off the 2022 state championships, the largest weight class will battle it out. Faith Wooley and Yared Calderon will be favored to wrestle for the title, but Mallory Lusco or Rose Williams could find themselves in that position as well. Wooley holds the weight of being the favorite, but this will be a dogfight to face her for it.
Favorite: Faith Wooley – 75% Chance
