  1. Micha Wicks may be only 5’ 5” , but she
Plays like she is 5’ 8” Many times she is
Double teamed with a third defender
closing fast! The next thing you see is
Micha break through the defense and lining up a shot or one of her fantastic
    assesses!
We can only hope that a excellent coach
With vision sees her potential as not
Only a great player but a 4.0 student and student body president as a Junior!

  4. Bailey Pedersen is the Best example you can ask for as a Team Player. She is a true leader on and off the court. She can nail 3 pointers with consistency and can set up and execute plays with ease. Baileys passion for basketball is undeniably something that she has worked hard to master and share her experience and love for the game with all those she plays with!

  6. BettyAnn Wilson is a true leader on and off the floor. She works all year round on her basketball while also dominating on the volleyball court, and track, helping coach little kids to greatness, as well as participating in FFA, taking college credit courses and maintaining a 3.8GPA in her Junior year. Her year has no breaks, through summer she plays on an AAU team in which she dominates 5A-6A players from all around the Country and even extending to Hawaii. From playing in Utah, Idaho, Oregon, Vegas, and even in Rhode Island she has yet to find anyone who can keep her under control. She plays a 1-5 comfortably and is always up for a bigger challenge. When she steps on the court she’s focused and gets things done. As a junior she shows an extraordinary amount of talent in everything she does. Senior year is going to be a movie, get your popcorn and sit down. BettyAnn is the athlete everyone will be talking about next year just wait.

  8. Tayler Eiguren is not only a top athlete, she’s an amazing role model. You can always find her competing with a great attitude and more often than not, a big smile. She’s a multidimensional ball player who can score in the post, drive, or drain a three. Her desire and work ethic makes her a rebounding machine. She’s the real deal, a +4.0 gpa student who will graduate with over 30 college credits. Tayler Eiguren is the all around person and ball player.

  10. Olivia Thompson, a friend on and off the court, opponent on the court, and Coos County girl. Olivia is a well deserved and hard working player. Which is exactly what our beautiful girl would want to honor.❤️

  11. Micah Wicks, is also a very competitive hard working girl. Watching her on the court was amazing she has so much love for this sport. And she would be an amazing choice for the Makaia Gilkey award. Makaia was very similar to Micah when it came to playing on the court and i believe that a girl with the similarities that Wicks shares with our angel! She would represent it well!

  17. Micah Wicks is an incredible player and an amazing teammate! She wants to play better in every game, and create a rocking atmosphere in every gymnasium she plays in. I have watched her develop from a player, as a freshman, to a team leader, as a junior. Micah treats each and every one of her teammates with respect, no matter if they are on the court with her, or sitting on the bench cheering her on. She is the epitome of an athlete of the year! You have my vote 100 times over Micah Wicks!

  18. Incredible that a 1A player who loves in a city of less than 800 has over 6,000 votes so far! Keep up the amazing voting system! Similar to the 2020 election process!

  21. Gas ain’t free (-Dwight K. Schrute) and neither are the skills it takes to score 28 points against a team with a 6’5” player and then turn around the next day to score 32 points (1 less point than the entire 3A championship team scored combined). Who did that!? Micah Wicks! Props to all contenders but MJ #2 from Sutherlin deserves Athlete of the Year. No one works harder to hone their skills. A leader, an example, a friend, a scholar, the whole nine yards packed into 5 feet, 5 inches. MJ, you are the winner in my mind hands-down.

  22. Micah you are the BOMB! Every athlete on this list is obviously a great player and should be commended. A popularity contest is unnecessary when great leadership and skills combined with great team members land the Sutherlin Bulldogs in the state playoffs each year . Huge shout out to both Micah and team coach Josh!

  24. Callie Glenn is as stated above. Kind, humble and selfless. She loves and trusts her teammates to no end. She is a stellar student and gives back to the community by helping younger athletes not only in basketball but softball as well. She always gives everything she can every sport, every game, in the classroom and in life. Her stats speak to how aggressive she is but what is so amazing about her is that she never seeks recognition for her work. I know all these athletes are amazing as well. I am proud of you all for being nominated for this award as it is truly an honor. It has been so amazing to be able to see all the athletes back in action this year. Best of luck to you all.

Kaylin is a rebounding machine and did an incredible job all season. I have always been impressed with her calm, cool demeanor no matter what situation she is in. We are all proud of her and her accomplishments. Kaylin not only plays basketball, she plays volleyball, which she is a phenomenal hitter and softball. She is a well rounded athlete, great student and is who I consider the quiet storm on the court. Super proud of you for being nominated Kaylin!

Look at the recent 3A state tournament tallies-Micah’s record-breaking stats tell the story on her amazing basketball talent. It’s an honor to watch her play. When a kid can do this AND be an amazing person who seeks to helps others around them, then you get the whole package. Way to go, #2!

  28. Remember when you vote for someone. Keeping it local doesn’t always mean the best option. Yes coos county wants to keep it local as Makaia was born and raised in coos county. The award is made to go to someone who will be determined and hold her name high. Each and every one of you girls deserves it for different reason. I strongly hope the person that chooses picks someone that will have the determination Makaia Gilkey shared. Good luck to all😊
