Sherwood — Two teams, both sitting at 10-0, sharing the Pacific Conference lead, something had to give. In this case, it was a battle between the McMinnville Grizzlies and Sherwood Bowmen, the first of two meets this week between the teams. When things came to a head, only one was able to go away victorious and it was the Sherwood Bowmen on Wednesday afternoon, who simply had too much firepower for the Grizzlies to keep up with.
Sherwood star and anchor Mandie Jensen settled down McMinnville’s Lucy Angevine in the top singles match of the day, winning in a 6-1, 6-2 sweep to open victory for the Bowmen. The top two doubles pairings also went in favor of Sherwood in rather anti-climatic fashion, finishing with final scores of 6-4, 6-2 and 6-1, 6-2, a pair of convincing sweeps for the Bowmen to jump out with three wins under their belt. In the #2 singles pairing, Dolan Dechatelet and Meg McLaughlin battled in a three set showdown, with Dechatelet coming out victorious after a forced retirement from McLaughlin while leading 5-4 in the third set. It would bring the score down to 3-1 Sherwood, but the next four matches simply were the icing on the cake for the Bowmen.
After taking three of the first four pairings, Sherwood got back to business by sweeping the #3 singles and doubles pairings, and McMinnville would split the #4 pairings to end up with a final meet score of Sherwood 6, McMinnville 2. The win for the Bowmen kept their perfect record intact at a pristine 11-0 overall, while McMinnville dropped down to 10-1 this season. In all of 6A, only Lake Oswego (12-0), Sherwood (11-0), Sprague (10-0-1), Westview (9-0), and Lake Oswego (7-0) remain undefeated according to TennisReporting.com.
