Salem — It started out dominant and it ended dominant: The Sprague Olympians hosted and dominated the 2022 Mountain Valley Conference from the get-go of the district meet on Monday at the Salem Swim and Tennis Club. With their only schedule blemish being a clean sweep loss to Jesuit, the program closes a dominant 13-1-2 campaign that ended with a 2022 MVC Championship. Next up are the state championships in Beaverton and an opportunity to try and bring home a trophy at state.
In the singles bracket, Sprague’s Libby Blair ran the table as the top seed entering districts, defeating West Salem’s Shasling Fonseca 6-0, 6-1 to win the district title. Fellow Sprague teammate Tirzah Tarbox took home third place with a win over Bend’s Marin Montagne 6-4, 6-4 in the third-place match. Sprague led all teams with 12 victories in the singles bracket.
In doubles, South Salem duo Sadie Paterson and Erin Cridge won the district title over Summit’s Sasha Schotthoefer and Stella Williams in a hard fought 7-6, 6-2 match. Just like their fellow South Salem counterparts, the Lady Saxons would also take third place in addition to the district title in doubles, with the duo of Andria Yao and Nidhi Nagaraj defeating West Salem’s Anna Emerson and Charlotte Haworth 6-2, 7-6. South Salem led all teams with 12 victories in the doubles bracket.
