Beaverton — There are certain guarantees in life: Death, taxes, and the NW Bullets winning titles. On Sunday, the elite NW Bullets program played for the 14A State Championship against Oregon Blaze 14U – Dimeo, who they had defeated earlier in the day 11-0 to advance to the state championship. Entering the day, the NW Bullets had no issues the first two days as they outscored opponents 14-2 to advance in the winner’s bracket. Oregon Blaze – Dimeo battled their way through some challenging games to get back to the title game after being knocked down by the NW Bullets earlier in the day. Just like their 10 AM meeting at Sunset Sports Complex, the 4 PM pairing wasn’t much different on the scoreboard and the ultimate destiny for the NW Bullets.
Things started quick for the NW Bullets with a pair of runners and one out in the first inning, Sam Blachly launched a 2-RBI double to open up the scoring 2-0 and Lainey Phillips hit a sacrifice fly to extend it to 3-0 NW Bullets. Cadence Ellenwood brought home two more runners on a 2-RBI triple to left field to make it 5-0 after a half-inning. Bruised yet fearless, Oregon Blaze – Dimeo fought back with a pair of runs on a bases loaded walk and an RBI single from Courtney Oldenstadt to cut into the deficit 5-2 after one inning. In the third, McKenna Parmelee added insurance with a sacrifice fly that made it 6-2 NW Bullets over Oregon Blaze – Dimeo.
With the bases loaded in the bottom of the third, Oldenstadt walked home a run that made it 6-3. Sarah Sprinkle sprinkled some runs on the board with a 2-RBI single that cut it down to 6-5 before Tatum Cole closed down the rally with a strikeout. An explosion took place in the fourth inning, starting with a McKenna Parmelee triple that extended it to a 7-5 NW Bullets lead. Berkleigh Tuck hit an RBI single, Blachly doubled home a run, Parmelee hit an RBI single, Phillips drove home two runs on a single, and Ellenor Baker closed the rally with a sacrifice fly that capped a seven-run inning, blowing open a 13-5 lead after four innings. To put a nail on the coffin, Blachly, Baker, and Tuck all drove home runs that extended it out to 18-5 NW Bullets, with them hanging on for the 14A State Championship by that score over Oregon Blaze – Dimeo.
For the NW Bullets, Ellenor Baker went 2-4 with a triple and 4 RBI, Sam Blachly had a 3-4 performance with two doubles and 4 RBI, while Berkleigh Tuck, Cadence Ellenwood, and Lainey Phillips combined for a triple and seven RBI in the win. For Oregon Blaze – Dimeo, Sarah Sprinkle and Courtney Oldenstadt both had two RBI to lead them in the loss.
